New study published on sugarcane in Pakistan

We are pleased to announce a new addition to the Ethical Sugar research library. Muhammed Tayyab Safdar, a doctoral researcher at the University of Cambridge, has written an insightful and informative report on the political economy of sugarcane production in Pakistan. Focusing on the Punjab region and drawing on his own fieldwork in the area, Tayyab explores the reasons for the expansion of the sugar industry in this dry part of the world and some of its problematic impacts on farmers and on the environment. Alongside some excellent industry data and key interview findings, he also shares some revealing photos of the reality of sugarcane production in Pakistan. Below is my favourite: Sugarcane Pakistan - Tayyab Safdar
